10 Days Uganda Cultural Safari

In just 10 days, you can discover the ancient cultures and breathtaking landscapes in Uganda, the Pearl of Africa. Alight at Entebbe International Airport and journey East of Uganda to enjoy a relaxing cruise on the Nile River, explore the local coffee plantation, and take part in cultural experiences with different tribes in Eastern Uganda.  Continue to the secluded North next, for a rewarding tour of the traditional Karamojong Communities/Villages and watch the unique wildlife species in Kidepo Valley National Park. Conclude the 10-day trip with an invigorating hike through Mount Morungole to visit the indigenous IK people.

Day 4: Source of the Nile Tour; scenic drive to Moroto Town.

Day 5: Community/Village tours with the Karamojong people.

Day 6: Moroto to Kidepo Valley National Park.

Day 7: Kidepo morning game drive and afternoon Karamojong cultural visit.

Day 8: Full-day Mount Morungole hiking to meet the IK people.

Day 9: Kidepo Valley NP to Gulu Town.

Day 10: Gulu Town to Entebbe Airport; departure.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe International Airport and Hotel drop-off

Welcome to the “Pearl of Africa”! Touch down at Entebbe, the gateway into the country found along the Northern brim of Lake Victoria. Our Airport representative will meet and greet you, provide assistance through customs and immigration, and then hand you over to the waiting safari guide to take you to the Hotel in the verdant metropolis.

Depending on the time you arrive Entebbe, you will either relax at the Hotel or go on to explore its top tourist sites that include Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary, the Reptile Village, Entebbe Botanical Gardens, or Uganda Wildlife Education Center.

Day 2: Transfer to Jinja City, the “Adventure Capital of East Africa”

On this day, you will leave Entebbe and head East towards Jinja, the Adventure Capital of East Africa and home to the source of the Nile. There will be a stop at Mabira Forest for a zip-lining adventure before proceeding to your final destination.

Depending on the time you arrive in Jinja, you will explore the Madhvani House Museum to learn about the City’s rich history and pay respects at the memorial for fallen Commonwealth and British soldiers at the Jinja War Cemetery.

Day 3: Full-day whitewater rafting

Start your day with breakfast and ride to the starting point of the whitewater rafting adventure. You can choose the Grade I, II, III, IV, or V to explore different rapid levels and surrounding landscapes. You don’t have to be a professional rafter to enjoy this adventure but be sure to enjoy it.

In the evening, you can relax at the Lodge while enjoying jaw-dropping views of the surrounding areas.

Day 4: Source of the Nile Tour; scenic drive to Moroto Town

Start the day early with a relaxing boat ride to the source of the Nile, where the magnificent Lake Victoria travels over 6437 kilometers through different countries to the Mediterranean Sea. This makes the Nile River the longest waterway, and while on this boat ride, expect to soak up the jaw-dropping scenery and go past stunning riverside communities.

Later, pack your bags and hit the road for Moroto, a far-flung mountainous area known for its towering Volcanoes, sprawling savannah plains, and the pastoralist Karamojong tribe. You will be treated to one of the best views you’ve ever seen in an African destination and when you get there, check in at the Hotel.

Day 5: Community/Village tours with the Karamojong people

This is the day you get immersed in typical Karamojong culture by exploring their traditional homesteads (known as Manyattas) to learn about their unique lifestyle, and culture, prepare traditional dishes, take part in their traditional dances, and buy souvenirs.

Take part in preparation and even tasting a typical Karamojong lunch, join in cattle grazing, milking, and other aspects of their pastoralist lifestyle.

Day 6: Moroto to Kidepo Valley National Park

You will be picked up from your Moroto Hotel in the morning and will be driven to Kidepo Valley National Park by road, passing through stunning countryside and sprawling savannah plains. This remote 1442-square-kilometer Protected Area is marked by rugged landscape, rolling savannahs, vast Valleys and Rivers (Narus and Kidepo) which are oases for animals to graze and drink water. Enjoy views of the stunning scenery while approaching the remote National Park, where you will check into the Lodge and rest ahead of your next adventure.

Day 7: Full-day Kidepo safari- morning game drive and cultural visit

Today you will explore more of Kidepo Valley National Park through two activities- a morning game drive and an afternoon cultural visit, keeping a lookout for unique wildlife species, birds, and other creatures. First up is a morning game drive where you will be able to spot Rothschild’s giraffes, African bush elephants, cheetahs, Cape buffaloes, blue monkeys, Olive baboons, Jackson’s hartebeests, zebras, Defassa waterbucks, and more.

Have lunch at the Lodge and unwind before your afternoon cultural visit. After a busy morning, you can relax at the Lodge, or there’s the option to visit the Karamojong community around Kidepo Valley National Park. The pastoralists tell tales of their traditional lifestyle, enjoy guided tours around their homesteads (Manyattas), and close the day with a traditional performance.

Day 8: Full-day Mount Morungole hiking to meet the IK people

Today you will explore the Karamojong sub-region again but differently. You will hike Mount Morungole, home to the IK people for over 3 hours to learn about their history and distinctive lifestyle. Be amazed by how they pay bride price with honey, how they farm, rear goats, and others.

Day 9: Kidepo Valley NP to Gulu Town

Check-out of your Kidepo accommodation and transfer to Gulu Town by road. Start the five to six-hour journey, stopping for lunch along the way.
