Our 8-day Eastern Uganda safari takes you through the diverse landscapes and rich cultural tapestry of Eastern Uganda. Kick-start your safari with a Kampala City excursion, before continuing North to Jinja (East Africa’s Adventure Capital) also known for the “Source of the Nile”. Get the chance in a lifetime opportunity to meet the remarkable Karamojong people in Northeastern Uganda, before leaving civilization behind while returning to Kampala/Entebbe. Spend 8 days/7 nights on Lake Victoria boat cruises, hiking up Mount Morungole, and enjoying a whitewater rafting adventure.

Day 1: Arrive in Entebbe, Hotel drop-off.

Day 2: Scenic drive to Jinja, the Adventure Capital of East Africa.

Day 3: Full-day whitewater rafting adventure.

Day 4: Source of the Nile Tour; transfer to Moroto.

Day 5: Transfer to Kidepo Valley National Park.

Day 6: Kidepo morning game drive and afternoon Karamojong community/Village tour.

Day 7: Morning Nature walks and transfer to Gulu.

Day 8: Journey to Entebbe; Departure.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Entebbe, Hotel drop-off

Welcome to the “Pearl of Africa!” This incredible country in East Africa offers some of the unmissable attractions. It boasts Africa’s largest and the World’s second-largest freshwater Lake, Lake Victoria, and is home to the World’s highest concentration of mountain gorillas.

You will touch down at Entebbe, which sits on a Peninsula at the northern edge of Lake Victoria and is popular for its hospitality and laid-back ambiance that you will experience from the time you arrive. Upon arrival, you will go seamlessly through customs and immigration with the assistance of your Airport representative, and then meet your guide for a transfer to the Hotel.

Meal Plan: This will depend on the time you arrive at Entebbe.

Day 2: Scenic drive to Jinja, the Adventure Capital of East Africa

Your safari guide will pick you up from your Entebbe Hotel for the three-hour scenic drive east to the Riverside Town of Jinja. During the road trip, you will enjoy breathtaking views and have a stop at Mabira Forest, a 300-square-kilometer Forest sheltering over 300 tree species, primates (such as the grey-cheeked mangabey), butterflies, and exotic bird species.

In Mabira, you have an option of having a guided nature walk or a ziplining adventure for an insight into the rich diversity of the forest.

After your Mabira forest adventure, you will proceed to Jinja, the “Adventure Capital of East Africa”.

Travel time: 3 hours.

Day 3: Full-day whitewater rafting adventure

Enjoy breakfast and head for your full-day whitewater rafting adventure. It starts with a private transfer by the safari vehicle up the River Nile banks to the Raft Uganda starting point. Go through the mandatory registration and safety briefing that includes receiving your helmet and lifejacket. Meet your rafting guide and conquer any of the Rapids- Grade                 I, II, III, IV, or V.

This adrenaline rush is thrilling but isn’t for the faint-hearted people. You will reach the end of the adventure by lunchtime, here you will get treated to a sumptuous meal and drinks. Once completed, you will ride back to your Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Source of the Nile Tour; transfer to Moroto

Meet your private safari guide this morning, and pack and load your bags on the Safari vehicle. Later, embark on the Source of the Nile boat ride, to see where the mighty River starts its 6437-kilometer journey to the Mediterranean Sea. While on this boat ride, get prepared to soak up the jaw-dropping scenery while floating past stunning riverside communities.

Later, you will go on a journey to Moroto, a far-flung mountainous Town and home to the incredible Kidepo valley National Park.

Day 5: Transfer to Kidepo Valley National Park

Meet your guide this morning and embark on a four to five-hour drive to Kidepo Valley National Park, located near the border with South Sudan and Kenya. This scenic drive will take you past magnificent areas of rugged landscapes, rolling savannahs, and towering peaks. Enjoy the magnificent scenery while approaching the Park, where you will check in your Lodge to relax ahead of the next day’s adventures.

Day 6: Kidepo morning game drive and afternoon Karamojong community/Village tour

Wake up to birds chirping and throw open your curtain to the breathtaking landscape of Kidepo Valley National Park. This 1442-square-kilometer Protected Area is known for its sprawling savannah plains, rock kopjes, verdant Valleys, unique vegetation (which includes acacia species), and woodlands- an incredible ecosystem which are home to hundreds of birds, mammals, reptiles, and Amphibian species.

Grab a cup of coffee/tea and get a sense of the full scope of this Protected Area on a game drive where you will see zebras, buffaloes, elephants, Rothschild giraffes, Topis, Jackson’s hartebeests, and others. This three to four-hour adventure includes a picnic breakfast surrounded by the wilderness.

Enjoy lunch before heading for a cultural tour. Here, you will learn about the cultures and lifestyle of the Karamojong people, before going back to your Lodge.

Day 7: Morning Nature walk and transfer to Gulu

Wake up early for make the most of the spectacular Kidepo Valley National Park. Getting to the Park early allows you to enjoy the natural sunrise views, and see more animals as they are still active and without the crowds.

Later, you will bid farewell to your hosts in the afternoon and hop in the Safari Vehicle for the transfer to Gulu Town. Located in Northern Uganda, Gulu is another unmissable place for historical and cultural tours. The drive to this Town lasts about 4-5 hours and you will check in to the Hotel and enjoy dinner while getting to know its history.

Day 8: Journey to Entebbe; Departure

Unfortunately, this is the last day of your 9-day Eastern Uganda safari for now. Be up early for the six-hour drive from Gulu to Entebbe and the Airport, where you will catch the flight home. Safe travels!
