Mgahinga Gorilla National park

National parks in UgandaMgahinga Gorilla national park is located in southwestern Uganda bordering Uganda, Rwanda, and democratic republic of Congo. The park lies along Virunga conservation area and covers the three inactive volcanic mountains of Muhabura 4,127meters, Mount gahinga 3,474meters, Mount Sabinyo 3,669meters.

The park is attached to volcanoes national park of Rwanda and Virunga national park of Democratic republic of Congo. This park was established in 1991 and is Uganda’s smallest national park in Uganda with a total area coverage of 33.9kmsq. the park is well known for its richness in biodiversity and is mainly covered with Rwenzori Virunga montane moorland, bamboo forest, Albertine rift montane forest with alpine zone at higher altitude with tree heath.

The park is well known for mountain Gorilla tracking and habituated golden monkeys, however it has more mammals around 76 mammal species like bats, rodents, African cape buffaloes, forest elephants, vervet monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, giant forest hogs, bush pigs and many more birds like the red-faced woodland warbler, strange weavers, black headed heron, grey crowned cranes, Rwenzori double -collaredsunbirds, handsome spur fowl, red-throated alethe, kivu ground thrush, Rwenzori turaco, regal sunbird and many more bird species. This park is however accessible from Kisoro town which is around 13km away.

4 Days Mgahinga Gorilla Park Safari

Day 1, pick up from Entebbe international airport, you will be transferred direct to Mgahinga gorilla national park. You will stop at the equator for an equator experience and breakfast. After continue through the green vegetational and pass through different ranches which will help us view the beautiful Ankole long horned cows and possibly grazing with zebras. Have lunch in Mbarara city and later continue to descend to the southwest of Uganda until we expect to reach at around 4:00pm in the evening. Dinner and overnight at Icumbi hotel.

Day 2, we start up our day while ascending deep in the park where we shall assemble at the park headquarters for a general briefing about the park history, park activities, and later group you in a group of not more than 8 people. You will be assigned to a guide who will take you deep into the park to search for the gorillas. Upon meeting them, will take photos, videos as well as when the guide is giving you general information about gorillas. You will be assigned to two armed rangers for security purposes just in case you meet with wild animals like the elephants and buffaloes, there role is to scare shoot to make sure that those animals can give you way. Later come back to your hotel and the coming back time depends on the movement of these animals as it might take a day or half a day.

Day 3, golden monkey tracking or mountain hiking/climbing. For golden monkey, these beautiful goldlike monkey inhabit the bamboo forest and other montane forest vegetation. They are big/many in number which gives a chance to take as many photos, videos as you want.

Hiking will enable you trek or hike one of the three volcanoes of mt mubabura, mt gahinga, and mt sabinyo. These beautiful stunning mountains will enable you see or view the 3 countries of Rwanda, democratic republic of Congo ,and Uganda, however this will take us full day. Come back the same lodge for dinner and over night

Day 4, after a morning breakfast, we start our journey back to kampala/airport
