Rwenzori Mountains National Park

Uganda National parksRwenzori National Park is found in western Uganda bordering Uganda and the democratic republic of Congo. This park was gazetted in 1991 and later recognized as a world heritage site in 1994. The park is comprised by a chain of mountains with distinct mountain peaks of Savio, gessi, stanley, baker, Emin, and speke. Mount Stanley being the highest at 5109m, makes it the second tallest to mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. However, this makes it the highest non-volcanic and non-orogenic mountain in the world. The mountains is a water catchment for so many water bodies, including lakes like Lake Mahoma, lake bujuku, lake batoda, Lake Bigita, lake kitandara, and many more lakes and rivers like River Nyamugasani, river Nyamwamba, River Mpanga and many more. It also has as many flora, and fauna. It has 177 species of birds and 70  species of mammals, like Ruwenzori duikers, chimpanzees, forest elephants, rock hyraxes, red-tailed monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, olive baboons, l’hoest monkeys, vervet monkeys, and many more.

However, the number of days upon which you may hike or climb Rwenzori mountains depends on the physical fitness you have as it may take between 6-8 day to reach the peak and descend back
