Exclusive Gorilla Tracking: Gorilla tracking is carried out in only three countries: Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Besides, tracking will always involve the trackers that will always penetrate the forests to make the tracking easy by finding the location of the gorillas. This is by finding out where gorillas will have slept the previous night. Gorillas don’t feed at night, as when night comes, they will make nests and sleep with their young ones. This allows the trackers to follow their footprints, droppings, and bending of the vegetation that will have been made by these animals.
Assembling at the park headquarters for briefing, this makes the general briefing of the forests and the numbers of gorillas and other animal species found in an area, birds, reptiles, and plants. You will also be briefed about the size of the forest, the gazettment period, and the date upon which the forest was gazetted. Here you will also have the history of the forest in relation to the local people surrounding the forest.
Later you will be grouped in small groups of not more than eight people, and you will later be allocated to your ranger guide, who will allocate you to one or two armed ranger forces that will provide you security while in the forest to scare shoot in air in case you meet dangerous animals like the forest elephants and other unhabituated animals. He or she (ranger guide) will introduce to you the gorilla family that you are to visit, its size, and the members that you are to visit.
The tracking may start from the same place or drive to the nearest point just to make the tracking easy and short. Penetration in the forest will need to have you move or have enough drinking water and food because you may not know the time you will come out from the forest. You will also need a walking stick, which will help you in tracking; a porter to support you in pulling or pushing you up the mountains; and masks. Not forgetting long stockings that allow you to tack in getters and gloves. However, gorilla tracking may take half a day or a full day, coming back in the evening.
All this will aid and make your gorilla tracking affordable and unforgettable.
